Writer

I started writing on the internet when the internet was still a weird place to write. Rantages began as a long-form satire platform that pivoted to memes. Since then I've written satire, analysis, cultural criticism, and the occasional piece of fiction. My work has appeared in The Daily Star, UNB, and various corners of the web where readers like to think in between being entertained.

Editor

Editing is not about fixing writing. It is about understanding what someone is trying to say and helping them say it better. I learned this at SHOUT, where I was the youngest section editor The Daily Star had appointed and had a team of writers who were often making their first serious attempts at journalism. From there to UNB's digital operation. Each place taught me something different about how institutions produce information, how decisions get made, and where the interesting work actually lives. I hire well. I give clear feedback. I don't rewrite unless I have to.

Creative Director

The line between editorial and product is thinner than most media organisations admit. When I built the digital presence for Rantages, I was making decisions about information architecture, brand voice, audience segmentation, and content strategy at the same time. A creative director in a media context is someone who can hold the aesthetic and the strategic simultaneously — who knows that a headline is a design decision and a typeface is an editorial one. That is the work I find most interesting.
