Trash Island

Writer & Narrative Designer

The problem

A 72-hour international game jam on climate crisis awareness needed a narrative strong enough to carry a point-and-click adventure with nothing but mood, pacing, and text.

What I did

Wrote and designed the narrative for a point-and-click adventure about a girl who grew up on an island made entirely of trash — uncovering, across the game, why her home became a wasteland. Built in three days for the Tomorrowcraft Global Sustainability Gamejam.

Outcome

Ranked #1 in the Heart-touching category at the Tomorrowcraft Global Sustainability Gamejam, organised by the German Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Agency for Civic Education.

Trash Island came out of a 72-hour jam with a climate brief, a small team, and no time. The narrative design was most of the work: finding a character whose life was shaped by the problem without ever making the problem the lecture.

The result was a quiet, point-and-click piece that won its category for storytelling — recognised, among entries from dozens of countries, for the way it handled a subject that most games turn into a list.
